Malaria has long resisted vaccines because the parasite is genetically complex, making it hard for the immune system to recognise it. Sir Adrian V. S. Hill and his team spent decades developing a different approach: a vaccine that focuses the immune response on the most relevant parts of the parasite. In 2023, the WHO recommended it for widespread use. It’s now being deployed across Africa as a scalable public health tool.
