Advancing disability inclusion through Interventions for Disability in Early Childhood in Uganda.

Every child deserves the chance to thrive! Across five districts in Uganda, UNICEF is supporting early identification of disabilities through Interventions for Disability in Early Childhood (IDEC)—bringing screening, care, and assistive technology closer to the children who need it most. Through integrated, district-led systems, over 16,000 children will be screened for vision, hearing, and developmental delays—ensuring early support when it matters most. Children identified with disabilities will be connected to essential services, including hearing aids, eyeglasses, and mobility devices, helping them learn, play, and participate fully in their communities. From health facilities to schools and homes, trained frontline workers, teachers, and community health teams are working together to reduce stigma, support families, and create inclusive environments where every child can reach their full potential. Because early action changes everything.
