Working as one to address nutrition challenges among refugees

In Nakivale Refugee Settlement, western Uganda, malnutrition is a challenge no single organization can solve alone. As families arrive after fleeing conflict, many children come already weakened by hunger, displacement and limited access to nutritious food. Addressing this crisis requires agencies to work together — combining health services, food assistance, community outreach and life-saving nutrition treatment. Through a coordinated approach, United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), and the World Food Programme (WFP), with support from the Uganda Humanitarian Fund (UHF), are working alongside partners and the Government of Uganda to prevent and treat malnutrition among refugees and host communities. Community health workers and refugee outreach volunteers screen children early, identify cases of acute malnutrition and connect families to care. UNICEF supports the procurement of Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Food (RUTF) and strengthens health facilities to treat severely malnourished children. WFP provides food assistance and Ready-to-Use Supplementary Food (RUSF) to prevent children from falling deeper into malnutrition. UNHCR ensures refugees can access essential health and protection services. #DeliveringAsOne #OneUN #InvestInUGchildren #foreverychild
