【Brazil/Climate Change】What did Aikawa Nanase see at Amazon Rainforest?
Nanase Aikawa, a Japanese rock singer serving as the Goodwill Ambassador for the 130th Anniversary of Japan-Brazil Diplomatic Relations, visited Brazil in September 2025 for a concert tour.
Despite her busy schedule, she made time to fulfill a lifelong dream—visiting the Amazon Rainforest for the first time. Covering an expanse about 13 times the size of Japan, the Amazon Rainforest is often called the “lungs of the Earth” for its vital role in absorbing carbon dioxide and producing oxygen. Today, however, this irreplaceable ecosystem faces serious threats from illegal deforestation.
During her visit, Nanase observed a JICA project aimed at combating illegal deforestation and safeguarding the Amazon rainforest.
