SJIP - The Syria Justice Innovation Process

Over a decade of conflict has left Syria’s justice system deeply fragmented. Millions of Syrians struggle to access basic rights, from securing property documents, to protecting themselves from violence, to obtaining personal IDs. In response, the Syria Justice Innovation Process was launched in 2018, an initiative by Syrians, for Syrians in which HiiL acts as a neutral convener and secretariat, supporting the process with data, facilitation, and innovation expertise, while ensuring that ownership remains firmly with Syrian stakeholders. Its mission is to design practical, people-centred justice solutions that respond directly to the everyday problems Syrians face. At the heart of SJIP is the Stakeholder Team, 30 respected Syrians: judges, lawyers, entrepreneurs, civil society leaders, and academics, who bring their expertise and lived experience to the table. Over the next few weeks, and in the lead-up to the SJIP III Sharing Event, we’ll take you through the innovations, the methods, and the impact of this initiative.
