What is the core meaning of social cohesion around the world? Mainstream research uses definitions of social cohesion that build on the realities and thought of European scholars. However, our analysis suggests that the core meaning of social cohesion cuts across different regions. We find that, for example, most African and European concepts refer to an inclusive identity.
