Aluminium supports wide-ranging applications in packaging, cars, electric cables and equipment, among other crucial applications vital to human progress. It also plays a significant role in the global decarbonisation efforts, supporting various renewable energy applications and electric vehicles. However, the aluminium industry is highly energy-intensive and contributes significantly to global emissions. Hosted by IRENA with the support of the International Aluminium Institute, this webinar presented findings from IRENA’s new report Reaching zero with renewables: Aluminum industry. The webinar explored challenges and opportunities in reducing emissions from aluminium production, particularly highlighting the role that renewable energy can play in facilitate the industry's transition.
