On May 27, 2026, NDI and the Embassy of Sweden in Lusaka hosted a virtual discussion on "Shifting the Landscape: Increasing Women’s Political Representation and Fostering Male Champions - A Zambia Case Study". With support from the Embassy of Sweden, NDI has undertaken an innovative randomized control trial to test the impact of multiple program interventions aimed at increasing the number of women running for local office in Zambia through both women’s candidate training and interventions with male power holders. With opening remarks by Christina Wedekull, Deputy Head of Mission at the Embassy of Sweden in Lusaka, Ella Kamuyuwa (NDI Zambia), Peter Chewe Mumba (Kasama Christian Community Care), and Michael Wahman (University of Texas at Austin) discussed, as general elections approach in August, what early evidence indicates about the effectiveness of encouraging men to support women's political aspirations.
