In Uganda, Village Health Teams (VHTs) are community-based volunteers established by the Ministry of Health in 2001 to strengthen primary health care, particularly in rural areas. Crucially, they also serve as the first point of contact during disease outbreaks, acting as the frontline of community health and the country’s first line of defence.
