Mexican farmers turn climate challenges into hope in Chiapas.

A story with charm and hope. Mexican farmer Anselmo looks up at the sky, certain that a heavy storm is coming. It isn’t mere instinct. The 41-year-old coffee and cacao farmer has spent his life attuned to the whispers of the earth, the wind, the water, and the animals in the lush hills of Chiapas in southern Mexico. Yet lately, that bond feels fragile. “The weather has changed a lot,” he explains. “Our ancestors taught us to read the birds. Here, we have birds called azacuanes. They fly in search of dry land. When they visited, it meant that the rain was coming. Now I don’t know what’s happening to them – they fly in circles without finding their ground.”
