What can a single scoop of seawater reveal about shark species?

More than you might think. Around Indonesia’s remote Damer Island, where an MPA was created to help protect hammerhead sharks, scientists are using environmental DNA to detect shark species from traces of genetic material in the water. This approach offers a quicker, more cost-effective way to track marine life and measure conservation progress. The project brings together three Pew Marine fellows from different cohorts and disciplines, showing how collaboration can drive more effective marine conservation..
