"When I study the 1800s, which is where I've spent a lot of time, I find political arguments that resonate with things that people say today. … And some of the anxieties are the same. … That gives you a little bit of perspective," NPR Morning Edition Host Steve Inskeep recently said to Pew President and CEO Sue Urahn. Following a panel event on the state of U.S. democracy—which featured three sitting governors, was co-hosted by Pew and Disagree Better, and moderated by Inskeep—the two spoke candidly with one another about America's 250th anniversary, how our nation's history can help add perspective to life today, and the need for civility and humanity.
