Opening Remarks by USG Rabab Fatima | ESCAP Special Body on LDCs, LLDCs & SIDS | ESCAP 82
At the 82nd session of the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), UN-OHRLLS Under-Secretary-General and High Representative Rabab Fatima delivered opening remarks to the Special Body on Least Developed Countries (LDCs), Landlocked Developing Countries (LLDCs), and Small Island Developing States (SIDS).
The statement highlighted the growing challenges facing vulnerable countries, including climate change, debt distress, trade barriers, geopolitical tensions, and the digital divide. It also outlined progress in implementing the Doha Programme of Action (DPoA), the Awaza Programme of Action (APoA), and the Antigua and Barbuda Agenda for SIDS (ABAS), while calling for stronger international solidarity, scaled-up financing, and accelerated action to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.
