Thai GRET film
The story follows Ms Thai Chhengly, a woman farmer from Siem Reap who transitioned from selling vegetables to cultivating her own through support from GRET’s agroecology project. Initially earning only about $25 per month and lacking farming knowledge, she joined the TETARD project, where she was trained in agroecological methods such as composting, crop rotation, and reduced chemical use. These practices improved soil biodiversity, crop resilience, and consumer health. By diversifying crops and using water-efficient technologies, Thai increased both productivity and income, now earning around $90 per week. She also sells in local markets through organised producer groups, gaining better access to supply chains. Her journey highlights the transformative power of agroecology, where localised innovations not only improve livelihoods but also strengthen food and soil systems. Thai’s ultimate aspiration is to secure a better education for her daughter, showing how agroecology contributes to intergenerational well-being .
