International Women's Day: Jessica's story
Every day, 570 young women hear the words: “You have HIV.”
When Jessica heard this in 2015, her world changed overnight.
What made the difference? Support.
From a nurse’s small act of compassion to finding Newly Empowered Women (NEW), a transitional housing program run by BEAT AIDS, Jessica found more than a place to stay.
With trauma-informed training from our partner, University of Houston, NEW offers understanding. A community. A safe space to rebuild.
Today, Jessica is not just surviving. She’s rewriting her future.
She hopes to become a case manager, supporting other women navigating HIV, addiction, mental health and re-entry after prison.
