Addressing the press earlier today, Leonor Zalabata Torres, Permanent Representative of Colombia to the United Nations, read a joint statement on behalf of the Security Council members signatories of the Shared Commitments on Women, Peace and Security (Colombia, Denmark, France, Greece, Latvia, Liberia, Panama, and the United Kingdom), on the situation in the Central African Republic.
She said, “We also stress the importance of ensuring that Minusca's ongoing reconfiguration does not undermine its ability to protect civilians and support vulnerable communities, particularly in areas affected by insecurity and the spillover effects of regional conflicts.”
She added, “We also underline the importance of integrating gender perspectives and the participation of women into security sector reform, mediation, disarmament, demobilization, reintegration, and stabilization efforts.”
