Bhutan’s 2025 SDG Progress | Third Voluntary National Review

Tracking Bhutan’s Journey Toward the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development In its Third Voluntary National Review (VNR), Bhutan shares key milestones and challenges in achieving the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This 2025 VNR highlights five national priorities: • Good Health and Well-being (SDG 3) • Gender Equality (SDG 5) • Decent Work and Economic Growth (SDG 8) • Climate Action (SDG 13) • Partnerships for the Goals (SDG 17) 🇧🇹 Grounded in the philosophy of Gross National Happiness, this review reflects the voices of all Bhutanese—from youth and women to persons with disabilities, civil society, and local leaders. ✨ Key highlights: • Graduation from Least Developed Country (LDC) status in 2023 • Bold climate leadership and the G-Zero Forum • Expansion of gender-responsive and digital public services • Near-universal access to clean water and sanitation • Launch of the Bhutan National Digital Identity 📉 But challenges remain—rising NCDs and mental health concerns, economic pressures from emigration, and the urgent need for better data and financing systems. 📈 Looking ahead: • Bhutan is fast-tracking the 13th Five-Year Plan • Aims to grow its economy tenfold by 2050 • Calls for global support in climate financing, innovation, and digital transformation 🌏 Bhutan’s VNR is a call to action—for continued partnership, shared progress, and a just, inclusive, and sustainable future.
