As conflicts multiply, ecosystems collapse, and the climate crisis deepens, the impacts on peace and security are undeniable. These crises are not gender-neutral — they are amplifying inequalities and revealing how deeply intertwined gender justice, environmental sustainability, and peacebuilding truly are.
Across the world, feminist movements and grassroots peacebuilders continue to show that gender equality is not an optional add-on to climate or security agenda, it is the foundation of both.
Drawing on the hard-won lessons of the WPS agenda, The Kvinna till Kvinna Foundation has launched a policy brief exploring how environmental degradation and climate change are reshaping the landscape of peace and security, and how the WPS framework can help chart a path forward.
Panel:
• Bridget Rhinehart, Women’s rights and gender equality expert, author of Extending the WPS Agenda: Women, Peace and Climate Security
• Claire Duncanson, Professor of Global Politics, University of Edinburgh; Co-founder, Feminist Roadmap for Sustainable Peace and Planet
• Hayma Alyousfi, Feminist researcher and General Program Manager, Syrian Female Journalists Network
• Camilla Pollera, Associate, Center for International Environmental Law (CIEL), contributing reflections from the COP30 discussions on gender and environmental defenders
