NEC 2024 - B6: Local Values and Decolonizing Evaluation

This session explores the ways in which partners around the world are working to value and shape evaluation and evaluation systems around local priorities, context and knowing. The key questions that shaped the session are: What does it mean to center indigenous knowledge systems and local traditions in evaluation processes? How can evaluators build more reciprocal, respectful relationships with communities that challenge the extractive nature of traditional evaluation processes? What concrete actions can evaluation practitioners and institutions take to move from theory to practice in decolonizing evaluation? How do we measure the success of efforts to decolonize evaluation itself—what does meaningful progress look like?
