Putting education and a career within reach: Juan’s story

Juan Vera, 29 — a single father in Paraguay — always dreamed of having a career. He worked to pay for his degree, but his shifts were unpredictable, making it hard to study or spend time with family. Things changed when he was accepted for the REACH scholarship. “My oldest daughter was the one who was happiest for me,” he says. In Guatemala, Honduras and Paraguay, the Realizing Equitable Access, Retention and Completion in Higher Education (REACH) project — funded by USAID and implemented by FHI 360 and a consortium of partners — increases access to market-relevant higher education and training for marginalized young people so they can thrive academically, professionally and personally.
