Engaging religious leaders as change agents to strengthen sexual and reproductive health and rights
As part of the WHO-UNFPA SRHR-UHC Learning by Sharing Portal (LSP) Video Telling series, this video explores the implementation of the corresponding LSP story titled "Engaging religious leaders as change agents to strengthen sexual and reproductive health and rights." Hear from the story’s author, Dr. Aaliya Bibi, Senior Health Advisor at Plan International Canada, as she shares how partnerships with Islamic scholars, government, and local organizations helped break down barriers to SRHR. Together, they developed a gender-integrated guide—“Islamic Perspectives on Maternal, Newborn and Child Health Issues”—to equip faith leaders with accurate, life-saving information. The guide, used in 93 activities, including community gatherings, Friday mosque sermons, and radio talk shows, contributed to notable improvements in antenatal care, skilled birth attendance, postnatal care, and increased awareness and use of modern family planning among both adolescents and adults.
