HEAT RESILIENT SCHOOLS: Adaptable, Modular Design Based on Local Material and Techniques

HEAT RESILIENT SCHOOLS is a winning project of the Heat Adaptive Architecture Design Competition, a global challenge calling on designers and architects to develop innovative, climate-responsive solutions for communities facing extreme heat. Set in Kajiado County, Kenya, this design envisions climate-ready schools built with local materials and rooted in traditional Maasai architectural knowledge. Featuring thick thermal-mass walls, cross-ventilation corridors, and brushwood louvered windows crafted by local Maasai women, the modular design is scalable, culturally aligned, and affordable at just $200–275 per square meter. 📍 Kajiado County, Kenya 🏆 Explore all competition winners: https://preparecenter.org/site/heat-adaptive-architecture-design-competition-meet-the-winners/ #HeatAdaptiveArchitecture #ClimateAdaptation #Kenya #HeatResilientSchools #PassiveCooling #MaasaiArchitecture #DesignCompetition
