Last year, at least 146 defenders were killed or disappeared for protecting their land, communities or the environment, with Colombia recording the most lethal attacks (48) for the third year in a row. This shocking figure means that, since Global Witness started documenting attacks in 2012, more than 2,250 defenders have been killed or disappeared.
