Kunar Earthquake Update - Miyamoto International
When the 6.0 earthquake struck Kunar, Afghanistan, many of the homes that collapsed were built using traditional techniques—mud, stone, and timber—without mortar, reinforcement, or seismic considerations. These methods reflect generations of local knowledge, but they are not designed to withstand strong shaking.
That’s where engineering can make a difference.
At Miyamoto International, we know that small changes in how homes are built—stronger walls, lighter roofs, and basic reinforcements—can save lives.
Our team has completed a preliminary damage assessment and is working alongside local partners to support recovery efforts rooted in knowledge, safety, and resilience.
