Skills training and seed funding launch sustainable careers in Western Uganda

In Uganda, many young people struggle to find dignified and fulfilling work. They may not have access to quality education, social-emotional supports, proper skills training, or capital to become an entrepreneur. War Child’s skilling program offers vocational and business support and even helping direct career choices for young people who may not be aware of paths they could take. One young man, Kael, thought he wanted to do catch up education, but realized War Child’s vocational training would better help him learn the skills he needs to work in electrical installation. Through the program he explored new avenues, and learned that he loved hairdressing. Kael now has his own clients in a profitable salon! Other young women, like Mira, who fled conflict and arrived to Uganda with her three children, learned gardening, and with War Child seed funding, grows and sells passion fruit to her community. Today, these young people earn income, support their families, and look forward to growing their businesses.
