Restoring Smiles and Learning for Children in Flood-Affected Southern Thailand

"When the floods were heaviest, my heart sank. I really wanted to go to school. I missed my friends and my teachers.” When floods hit southern Thailand, many schools were forced to close, leaving children waiting and wondering when they would return to the classroom. In Yala Province, Ban Sato School was among those affected — and for the third year in a row. To support children, UNICEF Thailand, SBPAC, and local partners joined hands to deliver baby kits, hygiene supplies, and the “Magic Box” — a learning kit filled with materials designed to help young children continue learning, even in difficult times. We met children who were finally able to return, reunite with their friends and teachers, and begin learning again. Their relief showed us just how important it is to support children to return to normal life as soon as possible. “I feel happy. I get to see my teachers and have the chance to learn again” Aiyadafitreeya said. For every child affected by floods, returning to school is a first step toward healing and hope.
