With extreme weather events becoming more frequent and intense, the potential for cascading hazards is increasing -earthquakes occurring during heavy rainfall can intensify impacts through landslides, flooding, and weakened infrastructure. ❗️He highlights 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐢𝐦𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐬𝐞𝐢𝐬𝐦𝐢𝐜 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 - the ability of buildings, infrastructure, and communities to withstand, absorb, and rapidly recover from earthquake impacts. This goes beyond structural safety; it includes risk-informed planning, resilient design and construction, early warning systems, and community preparedness.
