Cyclone Freddy: Response under way in Malawi
Cyclone Freddy warns us the climate time bomb is ticking
On Sunday, March 12, Cyclone Freddy hit Malawi, triggering heavy rains that led to flooding, mudslides and massive devastation in the southern part of the country.
WFP and partners are working around the clock to ensure food and other essentials reach people whose lives have been turned upside down by the cyclone. WFP is providing Corn Soya Blend, a partially pre-cooked fortified food consumed as porridge, to displaced people targeting 130,000 people in March
“2023 will be a very difficult year for many. The country will need significant support. It is critical that the international community steps up,” says Paul Turnbull, WFP Country Director and Response in Malawi. “It is a call to the world not to turn away from the climate crisis”.
