GDI Conference Plenary 5: The BRICS 25 Years On (Jim O’Neill & Gemma Cheng’er Deng)

"By 2026, it is undeniable that the world is transitioning from unipolarity toward a tumultuous, confusing, and contested multipolarity. The multipolar age demands a shift in mentality. There needs to be serious thinking on policy direction in the coming years and decades—whether we go down the path of splitting the world into two camps and make decisions primarily through a security lens, systemic rivalry, and economic autarky, or we push for a vision where we co-design a new framework of working better with, rather than against, emerging powers which are currently underrepresented in international rules-based order. The scale of the global transition demands a new type of institution. BRICS+ Thinking will operate as a Strategic Platform to bridge in-depth, empirical evidence-based academic knowledge with actionable policy recommendations. Our central mission is to convene, elevate, and refine strategic dialogue among leaders in policymaking, business, and academia."
