The critical role of implementation research in health systems: with Prof. Margaret Gyapong (Ghana)
Prof. Margaret Gyapong, Director of the Institute of Health Research at the University of Health and Allied Sciences in Ghana, talks about the universal significance of implementation research (IR) in health system strengthening. She stresses that the importance of IR is not limited to low and middle-income countries but is crucial in any health system. As systems, policies and governments undergo change, the dynamic nature of IR – conducted in real-life scenarios – becomes paramount. Prof. Gyapong reminds us of the collaborative nature of IR, highlighting its reliance on diverse teams with varied competencies, backgrounds and skills coming together to address specific implementation challenges within health systems.
