From testing to treatment: Accelerating elimination of schistosomiasis among preschool-aged children

Schistosomiasis is an acute and chronic neglected tropical disease caused by parasitic worms. With nearly 20 percent of global cases affecting those under five years of age, efforts to address the disease are more crucial than ever. In Tanzania, a recent study is shedding light on the disease’s impact on preschool-aged children and paving the way for rollout of a new paediatric treatment. The initiative is a collaboration by the UNDP-led Access and Delivery Partnership, TDR, Tanzania’s Ministry of Health and National Institute for Medical Research, with support from the Government of Japan – showcasing how partnerships can drive meaningful change towards a healthier and more equitable future.
