Evidence for Climate and Development in Africa

Evidence for Climate and Development in Africa

This COP30 session presents key findings from IDEV’s cross-sectoral synthesis on climate and development in Africa, highlighting what strengthens or undermines climate resilience across the energy, water, transport, and agriculture sectors. Drawing on evaluative evidence generated between 2012 and 2023, the discussion examines how climate-responsive policies, resilient infrastructure, and adaptive management systems can support sustainable development across the continent. The session features a presentation by Joseph Mouanda, Chief Evaluation Officer at IDEV, and is moderated by Dr. Sven Harten, Deputy Director of the German Institute for Development Evaluation (DEval). The panel includes Dr. Geeta Batra (Director, Independent Evaluation Office, GEF), Dr. Al Hamndou Dorsouma (Division Manager, Climate and Green Growth Division, AfDB), Dr. Henning Wuester (Director, Initiative for Climate Action Transparency – UNOPS-ICAT), and Dr. Vijayalakshmi Vadivelu (Section Chief, Corporate and Thematic Evaluations, UNDP). The event was held at the Africa Pavilion during COP30 in Belém, Brazil.
