NACW 2026: Carbon markets is in young adulthood, haven’t yet hit maturity - Richard Sandor
#NACW2026Insights
To understand where carbon markets are headed, it helps to think of them not as a short-term trend, but as a living system evolving across generations. At NACW 2026, Richard Sandor, the “father of carbon trading” shared a compelling analogy, describing carbon markets as being in their “young adult” phase:
Markets are at the dawn of a great era. Look at markets as generational. The first couple of years, carbon markets were in their infancy (2008-2010). Then 2-10 years is childhood (2010-2020). And then 10-20 years is young adulthood (2020-2040). We haven’t yet hit maturity. The best is yet to come. – Richard Sandor, NACW 2026 remarks
