NACW 2026 - Path 4: The Next Era for Registry Infrastructure
Path 4: Technology
All the major carbon registries are updating their platforms, and some of the new registries already feature advanced functionality. The accessibility, operability and connectivity of these new platforms will be critical to the functioning of carbon markets. Among other features, market stakeholders are advocating for interoperability among the registries and fraud oversight. In addition, the market is starting to consider complementary infrastructure beyond project information and issuance, such as those supporting credit custody and settlement capabilities. Panelists in this session discuss what is realistic to see in this next era for registry infrastructure and what the market needs to move toward.
