Cash assistance helps Afghan families survive today while education brings hope for tomorrow
Meet Hazrat Mohammad, a father and sole provider for his family in central #Afghanistan. “I am a daily labourer. I can barely cover our daily needs,” he says. Despite the hardship, he really wants to educate his children. “I want them to learn and serve our community one day.”
With European Union funds and in partnership with SADA we established 150 Community-Based Education (CBE) classes. Thanks to them 5,250 children can continue their studies. “Three of my children attend a CBE class,” he says.
Families like Mohammad’s often face economic challenges, and climate shocks push them further into hardship. Many families are unable to afford food. Winter and the lack of seasonal jobs compound their difficulties.
With support from the European Union and Czech Development Agency the family also received 29,620 AFN (about $450) in cash assistance. “With this cash, I will buy food and pay for medical treatment,” he says.
