Last night in London, candidates for the next UN Secretary-General gathered to set out their vision for what is often called the “world’s toughest job” – from reform priorities to the future of multilateral leadership. Among the strongest interventions was a reminder we recently explored on Think Change with Kate Gilmore, former UN Deputy High Commissioner for Human Rights: the UN’s gender deficit is also a leadership deficit. Decades of exclusion have not just limited representation, but – as she puts it –deprived the world of talent, ability, and leadership at a moment when global demand for it has never been higher.
