The UN’s gender deficit is also a leadership deficit | Kate Gilmore
Last night in London, candidates for the next UN Secretary-General gathered to set out their vision for what is often called the “world’s toughest job” – from reform priorities to the future of multilateral leadership.
Among the strongest interventions was a reminder we recently explored on Think Change with Kate Gilmore, former UN Deputy High Commissioner for Human Rights: the UN’s gender deficit is also a leadership deficit.
Decades of exclusion have not just limited representation, but – as she puts it –deprived the world of talent, ability, and leadership at a moment when global demand for it has never been higher.
The question is no longer whether women are present in these spaces but what kind of institution continues to be built when they are not.
