Ditching Disposables 2.0: A Toolkit for Healthier Foodware in K-12 Schools
K-12 students have every right to a safe and healthy learning environment. Every school year, K-12 school cafeterias across the United States serve over 5 billion lunch meals, often on single-use food serviceware. This generates an immense amount of waste and is not only bad for the environment, but can also harm young children’s health by exposing them to toxic chemicals like PFAS and styrene.
That’s why CEH is proud to release a new version of our popular Ditching Disposable toolkit! As part of this new resource launch, CEH's Green and Clean Program Coordinator Ben Schleifer will be presenting a dive deep into what's been updated, best practices for using this toolkit, and tips for implementing these strategies at your K-12 school. Additionally, we are pleased to welcome Fremont Unified School District's Recycling Coordinator, Stephanie Willits, who will be speaking on her experience moving 10 elementary schools to reusable, non-toxic food serviceware as well as CEH's Procurement Intern and current Dublin High School Junior Tarun Rajesh who will be providing a high school student's perspective on advocating for zero-waste cafeteria solutions.
This webinar is designed for a broad range of stakeholders interested in transitioning to healthier food service ware in their schools, including school food nutrition staff, district administrators, procurement, sustainability, facilities, and operations staff, teachers, green team members, parents, and students.
