Closing Vietnam’s Mental Health Care Gap Through Digital Innovation

Can a mobile app help close a national mental health gap? In Vietnam, 3 million people live with depression, and 83% receive no care. Researchers at Canada’s Simon Fraser University developed VMood, a mobile mental health app built on decades of Canadian-led research in community-based depression care. With support from Grand Challenges Canada and in partnership with the Government of Canada, VMood is now being tested across multiple provinces in Vietnam, showing how long-term partnerships and scalable digital innovation can help close gaps in mental health care.
