In Kenya, delays in seeking care contribute to one third of all maternal deaths. Many of these deaths are preventable. PROMPTS is an AI-powered SMS messaging service created by Jacaranda Health. It allows pregnant women to ask questions about their health and receive free medical information based on their stage of pregnancy. If symptoms indicate a potential danger, PROMPTS connects users to a human helpdesk agent who can refer them to a nearby health facility. Since launching, PROMPTS has enrolled over 3 million women across Kenya and helped improve access to timely maternal care, especially for those who often have no one else to turn to. With support from Grand Challenges Canada, PROMPTS has scaled from a small pilot to a nationally recognized digital health solution integrated within Kenya’s public health system. Building on this success, PROMPTS is now expanding into Ghana and piloting in Nigeria. #MaternalHealth #Innovation #Health #AI
