Where Ideas Become Impact: Harvard CID’s Global Empowerment Meeting (GEM)

The Global Empowerment Meeting (GEM) is Harvard CID’s annual gathering of global changemakers—leaders, researchers, policymakers, entrepreneurs, and innovators from every sector—who come together to share insights and incubate solutions for the world’s most pressing development challenges. Each year, GEM focuses on a timely theme facing emerging economies, from climate resilience to gender equity to AI adoption. Months before the meeting, a global conversation begins through events, podcasts, and articles that help sharpen the questions explored at GEM. At the meeting itself, evidence-informed ideas are stress-tested, refined, and strengthened through cross-sector collaboration. GEM brings together the public, private, and philanthropic sectors to take a proactive, action-oriented approach to development: identifying what works, iterating on solutions, and building pathways toward shared prosperity. Promising ideas don’t end at the conference. Through the GEM Incubation Fund, solutions born at the meeting can receive support to be piloted, tested, and scaled in real-world settings. This video introduces Harvard CID’s Global Empowerment Meeting—what it is, why it matters, and how it is helping changemakers around the world turn insight into impact.
