Incarnations by Tan Dun | Excerpt 1
NEW YORK, April 19, 2026 — Asia Society New York presents an excerpt from Incarnations by composer Tan Dun. Incarnations explores transformation and the universality of music through three works: a reinterpretation of Igor Stravinsky’s The Rite of Spring and two excerpts from Buddha Passion, inspired by the Dunhuang Cave Murals in China.
The Deer of Nine Colors reflects on kindness and harmony, while Heart Sutra traces a spiritual journey along the Silk Road, highlighting shared humanity and compassion. Featuring soprano Candice Chung, musician Lau Chun Ho (Hakgwai), pianists Frank Corliss and Ryan MacEvoy McCullough, and the New York Percussion Ensemble, the performance creates a dialogue across cultures and time.
