CBD COP17 Incoming Presidency Event: Enhancing Policy Synergy Between Biodiversity Conservation and Climate Action
The Republic of Armenia proudly hosts the Seventeenth Conference of the Parties to the UN Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD COP17) in October 2026. Armenia envisions COP17 as a milestone opportunity to enhance policy synergy and coherence between biodiversity conservation and climate action, and to deepen cooperation among the Rio Conventions. The COP17 Presidency’s message is clear: climate change and biodiversity loss are twin crises that must be tackled together. Strengthening synergies across the Conventions will make the global collective response stronger, more effective, and more sustainable.
As the incoming COP17 Presidency, the Ministry of Environment of Armenia is interested in hosting an event at the NDC Partnership’s COP30 pavilion to promote a whole-of-multilateral environmental agreement (MEA) approach to national implementation under the Paris Agreement and the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework, as well as to advance integrated action across the Rio Conventions.
The proposed event aligns with the COP30 Action Agenda, specifically Objective N6: “Efforts to conserve, protect and restore nature and ecosystems with solutions for climate, biodiversity, and desertification.”
