Santa Marta | Key Takeaways from TAFF Roadmaps Discussions So Far

Over the past 2 days, academics, civil society, and Indigenous peoples have led discussions on concrete solutions to accelerate the transition away from fossil fuels. As the Academic Chapter of the First Conference on Transitioning away from Fossil Fuels comes to an end and focus now turns to the high level segment, Katrine Petersen, Programme Lead at E3G, explains that for her, one key takeaway is that countries are not starting from scratch. From national climate plans (NDCs) to power sector decarbonization plan, many countries are already taking steps to transition away from fossil fuels. In Santa Marta, countries have an opportunity to build on the elements already in place, develop whole of economy transition plans, and ensure global processes supports what’s already happening at a national level. In a recent report, researchers analyzed 6 case studies drawing lessons for policy-makers to inform credible roadmaps.
