Lessons in Global Health Equity from Burke Fellow Dan Palazuelos (’18)

Daniel Palazuelos, M.D., MPH, Assistant Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School and clinician-educator at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, reflects on his Burke Fellowship experience and shares insights from his work in global health equity and community-centered health systems. A 2018 Burke Fellow, Dr. Palazuelos is a community health implementer-educator whose work spans Partners In Health, Harvard Medical School, and global health initiatives focused on strengthening community-based care delivery. During his Burke Fellowship, he developed a curriculum project on multimedia teaching in global health and social medicine, exploring the use of tools such as animated video, 360° video, and virtual reality to enhance medical education and learner engagement in global health contexts. Dr. Palazuelos has co-founded and supported initiatives including Compañeros En Salud (Partners In Health–Mexico), the Financing Alliance for Health, and the Community Health Impact Coalition, which focus on supporting governments and partners in building and scaling community-based health systems. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he supported migrant worker health initiatives in Immokalee, Florida through the Partners In Health U.S. Public Health Accompaniment Unit. He currently continues his work in community-centered medical education through Harvard Medical School’s Office for Community-Centered Medical Education.
