From the mountain villages of Dagestan to the shifting sands of Kalmykia and the open pastures of Astrakhan, the Silk Road Caravan crossed southern Russia in search of practical knowledge for bringing land back to life. Along the way: dzhuzgun shrubs that help anchor moving sands, camel herds roaming free, a peach orchard on an island and memorable welcomes steeped in ancient traditions.
