Land tenure webinar for the Latin America and Caribbean region
The regional webinar for the African and Arab region, titled “From Awareness to Action: Accountability for Tenure Security,” was held on 13 April 2026 and jointly organized by the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO). The session brought together stakeholders to exchange on ongoing work and emerging approaches related to land tenure and associated initiatives.
The webinar focused on four key areas: (i) the development of the UNCCD Land Tenure Toolbox; (ii) land tenure indicators and data availability; (iii) initiatives advancing women’s land rights; and (iv) practical experiences with grievance and accountability mechanisms. This included contributions from the FAO on land tenure indicators and data availability and Landesa on women’s land rights. It also featured presentations by the World Bank on its Accountability Mechanism and Brazil’s National Secretariat for Traditional Peoples and Communities and Sustainable Rural Development showcasing the Traditional Territories Platform, a state-based non-judicial grievance mechanism supporting the recognition and protection of traditional land rights.
