Land tenure webinar for the Africa and Arab regions
The regional webinar for the African and Arab region, titled “From Awareness to Action: Accountability for Tenure Security,” was held on 13 April 2026 and jointly organized by the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO). The session brought together stakeholders to exchange on ongoing work and emerging approaches related to land tenure and associated initiatives.
The webinar focused on four key areas: (i) the development of the UNCCD Land Tenure Toolbox; (ii) land tenure indicators and data availability; (iii) initiatives advancing women’s land rights; and (iv) practical experiences with grievance and accountability mechanisms. This included contributions from the FAO on land tenure indicators and data availability and TMG – Think Tank for Sustainability on the Women’s Land Rights Initiative. It also featured a presentation by the African Development Bank on its Independent Review Mechanism and the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) on its experience in Africa on alternative dispute resolution.
