Whispers of the Aral Sea: A story of loss and resilience
Once the fourth-largest lake in the world, the Aral Sea has shrunk to 10% of its original size. But where the water disappeared, women stayed. In this film, produced by Inna Modja, we travel to Karakalpakstan to meet the women building resilience on the dry seabed. From Maya, weaving the memory of the waves into carpets, to Malohat, leading a team of 50 women to green the desert, these are the guardians of the land. The Aral Sea no longer roars; it whispers. And it’s telling us how to start again.
