In communities across Indonesia teak is much more than a tree. It is a long term investment, a community building mechanism, and a tool for women’s empowerment. With ITTO’s support, teak production is helping rural households thrive while also opening new opportunities for the community. While access to finance and genetic materials remain major bottlenecks, the ITTO-BMLEH project has enabled smallholder farmers to produce good quality teak and adopt sustainable practices that ensure teak continues as a key source of community livelihood.
