Growing domestic wood demand in Indonesia

🇮🇩 In Indonesia, while wood exports continue to rise, domestic demand has lagged behind. What does that mean for local communities and small businesses? An International Tropical Timber Organization (ITTO) initiative bridges the gap between SMEs, young entrepreneurs and markets. From providing hands-on training to supporting a shared production space in Surakarta, the project is empowering small Indonesian producers to scale their businesses, collaborate, understand market opportunities, and sell more of their domestically produced wood and wood products locally and in new markets. By promoting products made from domestically produced wood from community forests, ITTO’s support is uplifting livelihoods, reducing reliance on unsustainable materials, and building a more resilient, circular bioeconomy in Indonesia.
